My
Country

PLANTIJN, BELGIUM AND ME

When i first came here i was so excited but also so worried. After i had seen Antwerp and Plantijn Hogeschool, i thought that everything was OK. And now i can see that i was right.
At the moment i am living in the Rainbow House which is famous with its parties. We are 15 people living in this house and i have 4 Turkish friends here. My life is easier with them. Because habits of Turkish people such as eating and entertaining are very different. Of course, there are lots of differences between Turkish and Belgian people because of culture. I want to mention just a little bit more about these differences.
Blowing nose is very strange for Turkish people. When you do this in Turkey, it's very impolite. Turkish people do it in a silent way. But i got used to hear that noise. And now it's normal for me, too.
Shopping stores are closed very early here in Belgium. In Turkey they are open until 21:00 or 22:00.
A bicycle is a kind of transportation for Belgian people. You can see people riding their bicycle while they are going somewhere in Belgium. In Turkey it's not very common to ride bicycle as a transportation.
In Belgium drivers are more respectful to pedestrians. In Turkey it's impossible to across a street safely. You always have to check the roads even traffic light is green for you.
In Belgium buildings are more historical and they are really very nice. You also can see old buildings in Turkey but not as much as you see in Belgium.
